Spending Money to Save Money

You have to break a few eggs to make an omelette. Though it may seem counterintuitive, sometimes spending a little bit will set you up to save lots of bits down the road. Here are a few food related products that can help you save big:

A Slow Cooker is an excellent way to turn very inexpensive cuts of meat or little odds and ends into a hearty meal. And coming home to delicious smells and a home-cooked meal is always nice. I make a mean potato corn chowder for busy days when I would otherwise resort to expensive (and unhealthy) drive-thru.

A Blender/Food Processor Combo is a compact machine that can make smoothies, soup, pizza dough, salsa, hummus, and a million other things. If you want to get into cooking from scratch, this is a good gateway machine. With just a few cups of flour and an egg you can use this to make homemade pasta, then whiz up a sauce to go with it. All while your fresh bread bakes. You could even use this to make a garlic herb compound butter. This is a wonderful addition to your kitchen, trust.

A Sweet Lunchbox will help you carry all your yummy leftovers to work or school. One time my sad little old sour cream container cracked and soup spilled all inside my purse. I had to get a new phone because there was a wet carrot jammed in my charger hole. Not my proudest moment. Plus, if portion control is your thing, these bento boxes can really help with that.

A Manual Vacuum Sealer is a neat tool you can use to store food you buy in bulk and make them last longer. If you get your mitts on a big hunk of cheap cheese, you'll want to keep it fresh. If you have a Costco or Sam's membership, these are essential.

These Magic Balls work by eating up all of the ethylene given off by fresh produce and will keep your fruits and veggies from over-ripening before their time. Nothing sadder than a peach you never got to eat.

Cloth Snack Bags are like washable baggies for you to to use over and over again. They keep things fresh in the fridge, too.

A Water Filter Bottle is way better for your wallet and the environment than buying bottled water.

These are just a few ideas! What are some things you've purchased as an investment in savings?
