It's tricky, but not impossible.
The first thing you'll need is a goal. If you've never really been able to successfully save for a goal before then just set a small one. Check out the Mind On Your Money Pinterest page for free printables, including a goals worksheet!
Since you've been keeping track of your spending and you've made a budget (you have one, riiiiight???) it should be easy to see where you can trim. Let's say you want to take a vacation next summer. $1200 is a fair price for two at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. Saving $100 a month is totally do-able!
Look at your budget and see where you can trim. Is going out every Friday costing you $200 a month? Cut out two Friday's a month and there's your vacation.
I get it. That's no fun. But you know what is fun? An all-inclusive trip to Mexico! Don't spend money on something you like when it's keeping you from something you love.
Eating a less than stellar take-out lunch at your desk every day costs big money over time. Why spend so much on a meal that's hurried, forgotten, and meh? Pack your lunch a few days a week and get thee to Per Se. Or Chipotle, whatever. Do you.
What are some ways you've cut back in order to save for a goal?
