Thoughts On Saving When It Seems Impossible

Bad news comes, don't you worry even when it lands. Good news will work it way to all them plans. We both got fired on, exactly, the same day. Well, we'll float on, good news is on the way - Modest Mouse, "Float On"

As I've said previously, saving money is tough - I totally get it. And it's not always about just getting a handle on overspending from your discretionary income. For most people, learning to budget "better" just doesn't matter because there simply isn't enough money to spread around.

If you find yourself in a situation where you cannot make it work, no matter what, then you need to get help.

  • Work out your budget (you have one, right?!??)
  • Eliminate all excess spending (some tips here)
  • Stop smoking, drinking, buying food out of the house, etc. Shut it down
  • Stop using credit cards
  • Avoid payday loan services at all costs
  • Get yourself to your state site for assistance and/or aid and sign up

More than half of welfare recipients are working Americans who cannot make ends meet. You are not alone.

For immediate help putting food on the table, reach out to local food banks and churches. For immediate help staying warm, seek out your county assistance office.
